Pet Senior Care

DOG AND CAT Senior Care in Rogers, AR

As dogs and cats get older, they need more attention and special care. Our senior pet care in Rogers can help your pet remain fit and healthy as he or she ages, and it will help us catch any potential problems earlier, when they’re easier to treat or manage. Regular veterinary exams can actually help your pet live longer, too!

Diagnosing diseases and certain conditions early is important throughout a pet’s life, but it becomes even more critical when your dog or cat enters their senior years. The risks of cats and dogs having arthritis, cancer, Cushing’s disease, diabetes, heart disease, hormone disorders, mobility issues, and kidney and liver problems all increase with age. In addition, dogs and cats may not show any signs of serious diseases until they are quite advanced.

How Do I Know if my pet is a "senior"?

Senior status varies depending on your pet’s breed and size. Smaller dogs tend to live longer than larger dogs, and cats generally live longer than dogs. We can help you determine what life stage your pet is in when you bring them in.

In most cases, we suggest a checkup and an elder pet care plan when your dog or cat turns 7 years of age.

Dog & Cat Senior Wellness Profiles

The information we receive from any of our Senior Wellness Profiles will help us properly diagnose a number of conditions that, when treated, can increase the length and quality of your pet’s life. We offer three tiers of Senior Profiles that are tailored to your pet’s needs, and your budget. All of our plans include:

  • Comprehensive Physical Examination – checking general appearance, temperature, weight, respiration, ears, skin, etc.
  • Comprehensive Diagnostic Bloodwork– to help diagnose cancer, infection, anemia and evaluate the immune system

Our Advanced Profile also includes:

  • Electrocardiogram – detects heart arrhythmias, changes in heart size or other heart problems
  • Chest and abdominal ultrasound screening – a non-invasive way to assess the internal organs and structures and abnormalities

Our Elite Profile adds:

  • Chest & abdominal radiographs – to assess bone structure, and structural changes in the internal organs, and to evaluate the presence of fluid which can be indicative of a heart or lung condition

Supporting Happy, Healthy Senior Pets

We can treat many symptoms that are commonly attributed to age, including those associated with cognitive dysfunction syndrome (similar to Alzheimer’s in humans).

We can also improve your pet’s quality of life in many ways: by identifying and preventing or reducing pain, recommending an appropriate senior nutrition and exercise plan for weight control and suggesting environmental modifications to keep your pet comfortable.

We will tailor a senior wellness plan to your pet’s individual needs. If you have any questions, we would be happy to discuss our senior wellness program in more detail. Contact us today to schedule your senior pet’s exam!
