What is a pet emergency?

It can often be challenging to know what does and does not count as an emergency. When in doubt, call. We would much rather assist you in knowing what a medical emergency isn't than having you wait, and the situation becomes dire.

If your pet is displaying any of these signs, please consider it an emergency and get veterinary care right away:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Choking
  • Hit by a car or in a car crash
  • Blunt-force trauma
  • Uncontrollable bleeding
  • Seizures
  • Ingestion of a foreign object or poison
  • Excessive vomiting
  • Severe diarrhea
  • Refusal or inability to move or stand
  • Unusually cool or warm body temperature
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Blood in stool
  • Unable to pass stool or urine
